Symposium History

Prof. Ray M. Wainwright

Prof. Myril B. Reed

The Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS) is the oldest continuously operating conference devoted to circuits and systems in the United States. MWSCAS has a long and proud history of training students to become practitioners in the field of circuits and systems.

Profs. Ray Wainwright and Myril Reed, pictured at the left, hosted the first edition of this meeting at the University of Illinois in 1955. The first international edition of this meeting was hosted by Prof. P. H. Roe at the University of Waterloo in 1973, and since then the meeting has been hosted in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Japan, and UAE, as well as many locations in the continental United States.

In 2019 the meeting became the North American flagship regional conference for the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. In 2023 Profs. Blain Christen and Abshire are delighted to host the 66th edition of this meeting in Tempe, AZ.
